Dot NAME Domain Names

Launched in 2001, the .NAME gTLD is the only one supposed to be for personal sites only. These domains can be personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are known by. Initially, solely third-level registrations were possible, so if you wanted to obtain john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already acquired 3rd-level domains remained running.
